For Paige and Jordan, that meant finding somewhere peaceful enough that their ceremony felt personal instead of public.

As we explored different locations together, Kananaskis continued checking every box. It offered sweeping mountain views, easy access to beautiful landscapes, and, most importantly, the privacy they had hoped for from the beginning. Their ceremony took place at the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge Lookout before the rest of the day unfolded at Upper Kananaskis Lake, where they enjoyed portraits, hiking, and a sunset picnic with hardly another person in sight.

One thing we always remind couples is that their wedding day doesn’t have to be completely figured out during the first planning call. In fact, it rarely is.

Originally, Paige and Jordan planned to spend their entire day around Upper Kananaskis Lake. It was simple, beautiful, and would have made for an incredible elopement all on its own. As we continued planning together, though, a new idea started taking shape.

What if they exchanged vows somewhere with an even bigger mountain backdrop? Or, what if the quieter lakeside setting became the place to slow down, hike, enjoy a picnic, and watch the sunset instead? A few adjustments to the timeline completely transformed the flow of their day. By separating the ceremony from the rest of their adventure, they were able to experience two completely different sides of Kananaskis without ever feeling rushed.

An Adventure That Felt Accessible

Although both Paige and Jordan love spending time outdoors, they weren’t interested in an all-day hike or arriving at their ceremony exhausted.

Their vision was much simpler than that. They wanted a short hike with epic scenery. Important to them was plenty of time to simply enjoy being together.

That’s exactly the type of experience we love creating.

The truth is, that’s completely normal.

Our approach has never been about forcing perfect poses. Instead, we guide couples through moments that feel natural. Before long, the camera fades into the background and the focus shifts back where it belongs: on each other.

By the end of the day, Paige and Jordan weren’t thinking about photos anymore. They were simply enjoying their wedding.

Embracing a Little Dirt

Another question came up during planning that made us smile.

“How dirty is my dress going to get?”

Mountain weddings come with a little dust, a little mud, and sometimes even snow. That’s simply part of getting married outside. Rather than promising her dress would stay spotless, we encouraged Paige to embrace the adventure. A few marks along the hem would never matter as much as the memories attached to them.

Out of everything they were planning, their ceremony felt the most intimidating.

Writing personal vows is one thing. Actually saying them out loud is another.

A Quiet Morning in the Mountains

Their wedding day began at a cozy cabin tucked into the mountains.

Rather than spending the morning apart, Paige and Jordan chose to get ready together in private. Hair, makeup, breakfast, and all of those quiet moments leading up to the ceremony belonged only to them. They intentionally chose not to have those moments photographed, wanting to fully experience them without cameras.

Once it was time to get dressed, everything shifted. We helped coordinate the morning so they could still enjoy a traditional first look while keeping the rest of the morning relaxed and stress-free. The first thing we saw when Paige opened the cabin door? A glass of wine in her hand and a huge smile on her face.

After helping Paige bustle her dress, Jason led Jordan to the first look location while I walked Paige through the trees toward him. Standing beneath the evergreens, they shared one of those beautifully quiet moments that seems to slow time.

Months of planning had finally led to this.
And the adventure was only just beginning.

The Ceremony Overlooking Kananaskis

By the time we arrived at the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge Lookout, the nerves had started to settle.

The mountains stretched endlessly across the horizon, the spring sun broke through the clouds, and a steady breeze reminded everyone exactly why mountain weather always keeps you on your toes.

Before walking to the ceremony site, we met up with their officiant, Cole, in the parking lot to go over the final details. We attached microphones, answered a few last-minute questions, took a deep breath, and started the short walk toward the overlook.

Although they had been excited about this moment for months, saying their vows out loud felt intimidating. It’s something we hear from couples all the time. Writing your vows is deeply personal. Reading them while standing in front of your favorite person can feel even more vulnerable.

Having an officiant gently guide the ceremony allowed Paige and Jordan to stay completely present instead of worrying about what came next. All they had to do was look at each other.

The rest took care of itself.

As they exchanged vows, both of them became emotional. Tears mixed with laughter as they shared promises they’d spent weeks writing, making it one of those ceremonies that quietly reminds everyone why intimate weddings are so powerful.

Chasing Spring at Upper Kananaskis Lake

Once the ceremony wrapped up, the day shifted into a slower pace.

Instead of rushing between locations, we loaded into our vehicles and made our way toward Upper Kananaskis Lake, where the second half of their adventure would unfold.

Spring in the Canadian Rockies can be unpredictable.

Although it was May, patches of snow still covered sections of the trail. Before setting out, we helped Paige and Jordan get organized, making sure they had layers packed, hiking shoes ready, and crampons within reach if the trail became icy.

Preparing couples for mountain conditions is one of the biggest parts of what we do. Every couple receives packing lists and planning guidance long before the wedding day, so changing weather never becomes a stressful surprise. Instead, it’s simply part of the adventure.

The hike itself was exactly what they had hoped for. Just enough walking to feel immersed in the landscape without turning their wedding day into an endurance challenge.

About halfway along the trail, the snow became deep enough that everyone stopped to pull on crampons before continuing toward the rocky shoreline waiting ahead.

A First Dance with No One Watching

Some wedding moments don’t need a dance floor.

Standing on a rocky overlook surrounded by mountain peaks and glacial water, Paige and Jordan shared their first dance completely alone. Just the two of them moving slowly together while the mountains quietly stretched behind them.

It’s hard to describe moments like this because photographs only tell part of the story. The silence, the wind, and the feeling of having an entire landscape to yourselves is something you have to experience to truly understand.

After spending a few more minutes exploring the shoreline, we slowly made our way back toward the lake.

A Bubble Picnic at Sunset

Not every idea is part of the original plan. Sometimes the best moments appear halfway through planning.

Early on, Paige mentioned wanting some kind of picnic after the ceremony. At first she pictured a traditional tent, but after talking through a few possibilities, we suggested something a little different.

A bubble picnic.

Because bubble picnics aren’t permitted inside Banff National Park, choosing Kananaskis made this experience possible. The transparent dome overlooked the mountains while creating a cozy little space where they could relax, eat, celebrate, and enjoy the evening together.

It ended up becoming one of the highlights of the entire day.

Inside the bubble picnic, a beautiful charcuterie board waited alongside thoughtful décor that perfectly matched the rest of their wedding day.

For the first time all afternoon, there was nowhere to be.

Reading Letters from the People They Love Most

One of the sweetest parts of the evening had nothing to do with the scenery. Before their wedding, Paige and Jordan invited the people closest to them to write letters they could read during their elopement.

Each letter contained encouragement, memories, marriage advice, and heartfelt words celebrating the beginning of this new chapter.

Rather than photographing every second, we intentionally stepped back.

While they quietly read through each note together, we focused on documenting the details around them, giving them space to experience the moment without cameras constantly in front of them.

Those quiet pauses often become the moments couples remember most.

Champagne, Golden Light, and the End of an Incredible Day

As the sun began dropping behind the mountains, the celebration continued with a champagne toast overlooking Upper Kananaskis Lake.

When it came time to photograph the rings, we placed them on a map of Kananaskis rather than a traditional styling board. It felt like the perfect representation of the journey that had brought them here and the adventure they were beginning together.

As golden light settled over the lake, we wandered the shoreline one last time, capturing portraits as the mountains glowed behind them.

Eventually the cameras were packed away. The champagne bottles were empty, and the picnic came to an end. After nearly twelve hours together, their Spring Kananaskis elopement quietly came to a close.
