Jon & Emily’s Love Story
In the heart of the majestic Rocky Mountains, where snow-capped peaks touched the sky, I had the privilege of being a part of a love story that would forever be etched into my memories. This story revolves around Emily and Jon, a couple whose love was as vast and enduring as the mountains themselves. A beautiful story of their Rocky Mountain Helicopter Elopement!
Emily and Jon were a couple with a love story as epic as the landscapes they adored. Their love had grown in tandem with their shared passion for adventure. From the moment they met, it was as if the universe had conspired to unite them.
How They Met
Jon and Emily met in Grande Prairie in 2005 through a mutual friend. The two would become well acquainted later that year on a high school trip to Ontario and Quebec. It wasn’t long before they started regularly spending lunches together, hanging out after school, & goofing off with a great batch of chums. With youth, silliness, and creativity on their side, many memorable shenanigans ensued.
Eventually, they each moved away for post-secondary education. But this didn’t stop the two from staying in touch over the phone during the school year. Summers were always a welcomed reunion for the duo. Both settled back in their hometown by 2013 which provided a more regular rhythm for their friendship. With consistent connections throughout the rest of the decade, they continued to develop an even deeper trust and admiration for one another.
Popping The Question!
It was inside a blanket fort in February 2020 when Jon asked Emily on a date. And date they did… during a pandemic nonetheless! But even social distancing couldn’t keep them from growing closer to one another. Next came the words “I love you” (Woo-eeeh!!) and conversations about “together forever” (Ya-hooo!!). During a visit to Kelowna in October 2022, Jon surprised Emily with an elaborate proposal. Wooing her with a kayaking adventure, jet ski ride, sunset hike, candle-lit beach, blanket fort, and an original love song, Jon got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?”. And… you guessed it; Emily said, “YES”!!!
Jon and Emily love their story. After 15 years of friendship, 2 years of dating, 1 year of being engaged, and all the adventures in-between, they are more than delighted to say, “I do”.
Planning a Rocky Mountain Helicopter Elopement
When the time came to tie the knot, they envisioned a wedding that perfectly encapsulated their values and desires. Privacy, adventure, and a celebration that was all about the two of them. They dreamt of exchanging their vows amidst the awe-inspiring beauty of Banff National Park. However, their vision came with a twist – they wanted a private helicopter elopement.
As a Banff elopement photographer with expertise in arranging unique and memorable ceremonies, I sat down with Emily and Jon to discuss their dream elopement. The idea of a helicopter elopement in Banff was exhilarating and I was thrilled to help them bring their vision to life!
Pivots Due To Storms And Wildfires
But, just when we thought everything was perfectly aligned, wildfire smoke and a massive mountain storm was forecasted for the morning of their planned elopement. We had to pivot quickly and adapt to the circumstances. This can sometimes happen but that’s exactly what I’m here for! Between us and the pilot from Rockies Heli, we decided to fly up the evening before their intended elopement day.
There was wildfire smoke lingering in the air. But our amazing pilot Ralph knew a special location where they could still elope with gorgeous views. This is exactly why I always recommend Rockie’s Heli and their expertise!
The helicopter ride was an adventure in itself, with breathtaking views and a sense of excitement in the air. As we landed on the mountain, we were met with the grandeur of the wilderness surrounding us.
With wildfire smoke lingering in the air, it casted a surreal and ethereal ambiance over the landscape. It was as though the mountains themselves were painted with the vivid hues of their love story.
Embracing The Adventure
As the sun began to set on the evening of their elopement, the atmosphere was filled with excitement. The approaching storm was a reminder of the unpredictability of nature. Though it was also a symbol of the strength and resilience that Emily and Jon’s love shared.
With the stunning backdrop of the Rockies, Emily and Jon exchanged heartfelt vows. Embracing the day and basking in the adventure of it all.
It was a day of pure magic and beauty. Ralph, our trusted companion, made the adventure even more incredible by ensuring our safety and comfort throughout the entire experience.
Emily and Jon’s elopement was a love story written in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Adventure, love and friendship were the stars of the show. Even the challenges posed by nature only served to make their day even more of an extraordinary adventure.
