Let’s explore 10 of our favorite places to capture unforgettable elopement photos!
The Most Popular Banff Spots For Iconic Wedding Photos
If you’re dreaming of those postcard-perfect Banff wedding photos, these iconic spots are where the magic happens.
1. The Iconic Lake Louise

Lake Louise is one of the most iconic places to elope in Banff. As in, if you’ve seen a picture of Banff, it’s probably of Lake Louise. With its sparkling glacier-fed lake, fairytale views, and elegant lodge nearby. It’s breathtaking, but for an elopement you’ll want a solid plan to avoid crowds.
Pros:
- Turquoise lake and mountain views
- Easily accessible year-round
- Fairmont Château is nearby for prep photos or luxury vibes
Cons:
- Very popular which means more crowds
- Sunrise is your best time for privacy
- Limited ceremony space unless you plan ahead
2. Postcard Views At Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is the postcard view of the Canadian Rockies. Think alpine blues, the Valley of the Ten Peaks, and early morning light that looks like a filter. But access has changed in recent years. The only way to access it is through a shuttle, private tour, or by staying at Moraine Lake Lodge. That extra planning though? 100% worth it.
Pros:
- One of the most iconic backdrops in Banff (Valley of the Ten Peaks!)
- Unmatched sunrise lighting
- Perfect for elopement portraits that feel wildly epic
Cons:
- Shuttle, guided, or private access only
- Seasonal access (June–October only)
- Crowds even at sunrise; not ideal for full ceremonies
3. Soaring Views At Sulphur Mountain

Want jaw-dropping summit photos without breaking a sweat? The Banff Gondola whisks you up Sulphur Mountain in just minutes, delivering panoramic views that feel straight out of a drone shot. It’s touristy, yes, but it’s also incredibly accessible for anyone not up to hiking.
Pros:
- 360° views at the summit
- No hiking required, just hop on the gondola
- Accessible for guests of all ages and abilities
Cons:
- Crowded decks can mean less privacy or more waiting for the perfect shot
- Tickets for your whole crew can add up
- Very structured experience, not ideal for free-spirited spontaneity
- Some areas can feel more tourist-attraction than nature escape
4. Serene & Scenic Views At Bow Lake

Tucked along the Icefields Parkway, Bow Lake offers glacier-fed waters, peaceful energy, and fewer crowds than its more famous neighbors. It’s a dream for couples craving stillness, open skies, and wide-angle mountain drama.
Pros:
- Glacier views in a peaceful, less crowded setting
- Easy access right off the road
- Stunning reflections on calm days
Cons:
- No major services nearby, you’ll need to come prepared (which we help you plan for!)
- Feels remote, which may not suit all couples
5. Peaceful Vibes At Two Jack Lake

Two Jack Lake is a local favorite that gives you all the best of Banff without the tourist crush. Mount Rundle rises dramatically behind the lake, making it perfect for romantic portraits and intimate vow exchanges. Early mornings or golden hour here? Chef’s kiss.
Pros:
- Gorgeous Mount Rundle backdrop
- Less crowded than Lake Louise or Moraine Lake
- Easy access and parking
- Great light at sunrise and sunset
Cons:
- Can be busy with picnickers and paddlers during the day
- Midday light can be harsh
The Most Underrated Spots in Banff For Iconic Wedding Photos
If you’re after something a little quieter, a little wilder, and a lot more personal, these lesser-known Banff locations deliver big magic.
6. Laid Back Beauty At Vermilion Lakes

If you’re craving dreamy mountain reflections without the crowds or early wake-up calls, Vermilion Lakes is your low-key hero. Just outside downtown Banff, this peaceful spot offers killer sunrise views, still waters, and tons of convenience.
Pros:
- Easy access, minimal/easy hiking required
- Gorgeous sunrise reflections of Mount Rundle
- Quiet, especially early morning or midweek
- We keep Vermilion Lakes as a backup in case of bad weather
Cons:
- More “serene” than “jaw-dropping”
- Less privacy later in the day due to local traffic
7. Glacial Vibes At Peyto Lake (Upper Lookout)

If you want epic with a twist, Peyto Lake delivers. The lake really is shaped like a wolf and that adds a one-of-a-kind touch to your Banff wedding photos. The upper lookout offers sweeping views with far fewer people as long as you’re down for a short hike. It’s a hidden gem that feels surreal and a little wild.
Pros:
- Incredible views of the wolf-shaped glacier lake!
- Short hike to upper lookout offers privacy & stunning photos
- Surrounded by forest and alpine peaks for visual variety
Cons:
- Moderate hike to get there (also a pro!)
- Can be closed in winter due to safety concerns
8. Seriously Stunning Lake Minnewanka Backcountry

For the couples who want to feel like the only two people in the world, the backcountry areas around Lake Minnewanka are calling. Think rugged cliffs, sprawling alpine water, and zero crowds. You’ll need to hike or boat to the best spots, but the privacy and jaw-dropping scenery are 100% worth it.
Pros:
- Remote and wildly romantic; no crowds, no noise
- Dramatic cliffside and alpine lake views
- Flexible access: hike in or boat across
Cons:
- Wildlife encounters, including bears, are possible (this goes in our pro column!)
- No cell signal or facilities, this is a true wilderness vibe
9. Waterfalls & Forest Trails At Johnston Canyon

If you’re dreaming of elopement photos with waterfall mist, mossy canyon walls, and that enchanted forest feel, Johnston Canyon might be your spot. It’s a popular hiking trail, but if we go early (and we do mean early), it’s full of quiet, romantic corners perfect for vows or portraits. The winding boardwalks and layered rock formations make for seriously unique photo backdrops.
Pros:
- Gorgeous waterfalls & lush canyon walls make for superb visual variety
- Great for moody, storybook-style wedding photos
- Easy to access from Banff
Cons:
- Very narrow trails are not ideal for first time hikers
- Crowds build quickly during the day
- Better suited for photos, not the full ceremony
10. Wild & Rugged Castle Mountain Lookout

This lesser-known gem is one of Banff’s best-kept secrets for adventurous couples who want photos that feel bold and untamed. With jagged peaks stretching above the Bow Valley and hardly another soul in sight, Castle Mountain Lookout serves up serious drama with none of the crowds. It’s especially magical at golden hour, when the whole mountain seems to glow.
Pros:
- Epic alpine backdrop with a rugged, untouched feel
- Fewer tourists makes for more privacy and flexibility
- A true “off the beaten path” Banff wedding photo location
Cons:
- Exposure to all of the elements (shade is limited)
- Gravel roads and rough terrain means we come prepared
- No services nearby, so it’s fully DIY
