Couple kisses after their Kananaskis Mountain Elopement ceremony

Megan and Scott travelled from Colorado to Canada for their Kananaskis Mountain Elopement. When they reached out they knew they wanted to elope in Banff National Park, but they were also open to other epic scenery in the surrounding areas as well. During our first call, we vibed and bonded over our shared love for animals, pizza and hidden local gems. They wanted an adventure elopement day that was not a lot of hiking and a chill time which is our specialty. We couldn’t wait to begin the elopement planning process together right away!!

Choosing To Elope In Kananaskis

After we dove into planning mode, we got super clear on what was most important to them for their wedding day (epic mountain views included ;). Because they wanted to get married in the Summer peak season but also wanted privacy, we recommended the gorgeous area of Kananaskis as an epic, alternative choice to a Banff summer wedding. They absolutely loved the easy-to-get-to options we provided during the elopement planning process, and were over the moon excited to avoid the Banff crowds!

Megan and Scott’s Elopement Story

As a super hip and fun couple, Megan and Scott wanted a ceremony that reflected who they are and was filled with what mattered most. They chose to bring along a super fun guest, Megan’s brother, Carter. He was intentionally chosen to officiate their symbolic ceremony, and to hang out for good times. A non-legal ceremony was right for them because they didn’t want to involve the government in their decision, which we celebrated and supported! After finalizing their wedding ceremony location, we sent them all the things to guide them through planning, from recommended vendors to hotels and our favourite restaurants to check out in the area.

How They Met

We met at Swedish Medical Center where we both worked for a time. We both started right around the same time. I am super shy in general, Megan is not shy at all. She made it her mission to befriend me and break my professional exterior. Some looking in from the outside might have said Megan was my bully. We had a ton of fun together. We would play pranks on each other constantly and kept a broad spectrum of inside jokes.

When I asked her to house sit for me

Once I asked her to house sit for me while I was out of town. I hid porcelain dolls all around the house and painted them bloody. Megan, did not mention the dolls at all while I was gone which was a huge disappointment! But she got back at me by hiding them herself and rearranging many of the things in my house. I described the antics to my mother who asked “so, are you guys dating” which I had to unfortunately respond that she’s got a serious boyfriend. Our friendship grew, we saw each other outside of work on occasion for social events. Went to some concerts together and played BINGO routinely at a local bar.

Our pandemic romance continued

I eventually left the job right before COVID happened and moved to a different medical centre. Megan and I kept in touch. During COVID she would bring me Bah Mi sandwiches from work and offer to bring me bulk toilet paper (what a lady). Around this time Megan also told me her and her boyfriend had broke up. We spoke more and more during this time but I was completely oblivious to her intents. We both love to thrift so I casually asked her if she wanted to go to a few thrift stores one weekend. A great time was had! I bought some hats, she bought a creepy little highchair for my creepy little porcelain doll. I was telling a friend of mine how much fun I had with her and he had to explain to me that I had just had a great first date. I’m totally oblivious.

When she invited me over to her place

A few days later Megan invited me to come over to her place because she was “meal prepping” and had so much food. She got me a very sweet gift because my cat had just passed away and showed off her ukulele skills by covering a song from one of our favourite bands. The rest is history, I fell in love with her that night. Our actual first “real” date was some time later because of COVID lockdowns, but we spent the time getting to know each other and making the best of things. We dated for about a year and then moved in together. We have been together for 4 years now and have built a cozy life together with our wonderful dog Dulce.

Their Proposal Story Part 1

We planned a trip to Puerto villarta in October 2023. I had already purchased a ring and intended to propose there. Megan was probably anticipating it, she knew I had the ring already because she helped me pick out the style she liked. I bought tickets to a short cruise that would take us to an island for a dinner and show. My plan was to propose at some point during those events. Fortunately/unfortunately a hurricane rolled in and they canceled the cruise.

Their Proposal Story Part 2

I found out later that Megan was terrified of going on the cruise, so probably work out for the best! The day after the hurricane went through we spent the day traveling around Puerto Villarta just checking out the shops and some of the historical locations. We came back to the hotel with the intention to go down to the beach. From our balcony Megan was watching a wedding that was occurring at the hotel and talking about how cute it was and I couldn’t stand not being engaged to her for another second. I proposed on the balcony and we went down to the beach to take some pictures with an amazing post hurricane sunset.

How Their Day Unfolded for Kananaskis Mountain Elopement

Megan and Scott wanted a chill morning while getting ready so we met in the early afternoon to begin their wedding day adventure! After meeting in the parking lot, Jason took Scott down to the first look location while Carter and I stayed at the car with Megan. In her down to earth fashion, Megan slipped into her wedding dress in the parking lot and we walked towards where Scott was waiting. They had a lovely first look where they could take in that special moment of seeing each other for the first time. They then skipped some rocks together – a treasured ritual they share.

Their Kananaskis Mountain Elopement Ceremony

We began walking towards their ceremony that was specially crafted between Megan, Scott & Carter. We were so excited to witness their wedding ceremony unfold, and they truly delivered. It began with the sound of a conch shell to mark the beginning. Megan and Scott walked towards each other and then held hands when they reached each other. Their vows were so emotional in the best way. Jason and I were tearing up behind the camera witnessing the beautiful words they crafted and shared. Scott offered Megan a pebble, Carter performed a blanket ceremony and acknowledged the land. Their deep respect for each other and nature were ever present. It was so unique and special to witness it all.

After their Kananaskis mountain elopement ceremony, the clouds got a little darker. It began to sprinkle in true rocky mountain fashion. We were originally going to have a ukulele serenade moment after the ceremony. Due to the sprinkles, Megan and Scott wanted to pivot and instead have a campfire serenade in the evening! That is the beauty of elopements, we design whatever you want! We always include buffer room for this reason, so pivoting is easy, stress-free and fun!

What Megan and Scott Say About Their Kananaskis Mountain Elopement Experience

“Liz and Jason are amazing!!!

We live in Colorado and were interested in eloping in the Banff area. Liz and Jason made our hopes a reality. Liz helped us pick out a location and plan out our special day. She did all of the heavy lifting for the planning and made everything as easy on us as possible. We could not have asked for a more perfect day. Liz and Jason were fun, professional, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable.

Neither of us would consider ourselves experienced or comfortable in front of a camera, but you would never be able to tell looking at the end result.

We all got along so well it was like spending the day with old friends. The photos all turned out perfectly. Liz had an amazing vision for our pictures. The video Jason put together was absolutely gorgeous.

We are so proud of all of the photography/videography and are so happy to share it with our family and friends. Liz and Jason far exceeded all our expectations.

We highly recommend them to anyone interested in eloping.” – Megan & Scott

We absolutely loved all the amazing wedding details that Megan and Scott incorporated into their day. From dog cufflinks for a groom accessory, to a heart kitty charm on Megan’s bridal bouquet, to the inscription on the wedding rings – “To my bean – love, monkey”. Megan’s bridal flower crown was on point from Small Flower Floral Studio – one of our favourite eco friendly florists that we work with.
