Gabriella and Bronson knew what they wanted from their Banff winter elopement from the beginning. They loved the idea of snow, mountains, privacy, and a little adventure. Spending hours hiking to get there, however, was definitely not part of the plan.

Our kind of people.

As outdoorsy travelers who love camping, they wanted to experience the Canadian Rockies without turning their wedding into an endurance event. A short walk to an incredible mountain view sounded much more their speed. Fortunately, Banff has plenty of beautiful locations that make that possible.

We started planning their winter elopement about a year in advance. We found accessible Banff elopement locations that offered snowy forests, mountain views, and the privacy they wanted, then Gabriella and Bronson gave us feedback on which spots felt most like them. Choosing the right season was just as important as finding the right places, so we got strategic about their date too.

And yes, their cat Wilma was originally supposed to come.

Our mutual love for cats gave us something to bond over immediately. Gabriella and Bronson fully intended to bring Wilma along for their Banff adventure, especially since there are pet-friendly accommodations in the area. Unfortunately, Wilma decided traveling was absolutely not part of her personal wedding vision.

We respect a cat with boundaries.

Why Plan a Banff Winter Elopement?

Epic Banff Elopement Locations Without a Huge Hike

There’s a certain image that tends to come to mind when people hear “adventure elopement.” Think hiking boots, giant backpacks, six miles uphill, and someone changing into a wedding dress behind a tree.

If that sounds incredible to you, we support it.

However, an adventure elopement in Banff doesn’t have to involve a massive hike.

Gabriella and Bronson love being outdoors, but they weren’t interested in spending their wedding day trekking between locations. Instead, they wanted easy-access Banff scenery where a short walk could still lead to enormous mountain views.

That’s exactly what we planned.

Banff National Park has incredible locations where couples can experience mountains, forests, lakes, and waterfalls without hiking for hours. For anyone with accessibility needs, chronic pain, limited hiking experience, or absolutely zero desire to sweat through their wedding clothes, that’s very good news.

Loving the outdoors doesn’t mean you have to spend your wedding day climbing a mountain. An easy walk can still lead to incredible scenery. And if you want complete privacy somewhere high in the mountains without the hike, a helicopter elopement might be more your speed.

Why November Is a Great Time for a Winter Elopement in Banff

Privacy was another major priority for Gabriella and Bronson.

Of course, Banff is one of Canada’s most popular national parks. We can never guarantee that a location will be completely empty, but thoughtful Banff elopement planning can make a huge difference.

For this wedding, we recommended a weekday near the end of November. The timing gave them the snowy winter setting they imagined while helping them avoid some of the heavier crowds that arrive during December and January.

Location choice mattered too. We guided them toward an area that tends to be quieter, especially during the off-season. Their first look ended up being completely private, while only a tiny handful of people were around during their ceremony.

In the end, they got their winter wonderland, beautiful Canadian Rockies views, and plenty of space to actually experience it together.

Gabriella & Bronson’s Love Story

From Elementary School to Forever

Technically, Gabriella and Bronson have known each other since elementary school. They lived close to their school, and their younger siblings were the same age.

Their own friendship really began in high school.

Before dating each other, the two were friends and even went on double dates with other partners. Eventually, Grade 12 rolled around, and their relationship turned into something more.

Then university arrived.

When Gabriella moved away, they began seven and a half years of long distance. The experience was both a blessing and a curse, but they credit those years with ultimately making their relationship stronger.

Throughout it all, they found joy in the things they still love doing together today. Camping, traveling, football games, concerts, collecting music, listening to records, and simply relaxing together have always been part of their relationship.

Naturally, a few of those things made their way into their Banff elopement day too.

Their Intimate Toronto Proposal

Traditional proposal expectations weren’t really Gabriella and Bronson’s thing either.

Rather than putting all the planning and pressure on one person, they decided to create the experience together. Both chose rings months in advance, and each knew a proposal was coming.

On July 21, 2023, they went to a Post Malone concert in Toronto. Later that night, they headed to Toronto Harbour and the Toronto Music Garden.

Under the stars, each chose a spot and spoke from the heart. Then, they proposed to one another.

There wasn’t an audience or an elaborate surprise waiting in the background. Instead, the moment was private, mutual, and intentional. Those same values eventually became the foundation for their winter wedding in Banff.

Getting Ready at the Fairmont Banff Springs

A Cozy Banff Wedding Morning With Family

Gabriella spent her wedding morning getting ready at the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel with her mom, grandma, and best friend Gracie.

Before everyone started getting ready, they spent some quiet time together on the bed. Their conversation wandered through life, love, their hopes for the future, and everything in between. We gave them privacy to enjoy it while photographing Gabriella and Bronson’s wedding details nearby.

And there were a lot of good details.

Thrifted, Handmade & Sentimental Wedding Details

As an eco-conscious couple, Gabriella and Bronson incorporated secondhand, handmade, and sentimental pieces throughout their Banff wedding.

Gabriella found her dress on consignment rather than purchasing something new. She and Gracie also created her dried wedding bouquet together, which was later sent away for professional preservation.

Family heirlooms appeared throughout her accessories, adding even more history to the day. One of their rings featured an inscription inspired by The Lord of the Rings, which was particularly fitting for two massive fans.

Then there were the shoes.

We LOVED them!!! They felt so her and looked ridiculously cute with her dress.

But here’s our little adventure-elopement-photographer PSA: we always recommend wearing proper hiking boots or weather-appropriate footwear when you’re moving through snowy or icy terrain.

Want the cute shoes in your photos? BRING THEM!!! Wear your hiking boots while we’re getting from place to place, then swap into the fun ones once we’re somewhere safe to do so.

Gabriella and Bronson decided they wanted to stick with their dress shoes for the day, so we made it work and kept an extra eye on the terrain as we went.

Because we are VERY into wearing the shoes that feel like you.

Her mom helped with her hair while the rest of the morning unfolded at an easy pace. Rather than feeling like a formal getting-ready session, it felt like Gabriella hanging out with some of her favorite people.

Of course, no wedding morning is complete without at least one tiny plot twist.

The button on the back of of Gabriella’s dress popped off.

Luckily, Grandma and an emergency sewing kit were nearby. Everyone jumped in, fixed the problem together, and carried on.

Crisis handled. Time to get married.

A Private Winter Wedding Ceremony in Banff National Park

A Snowy First Look Among the Trees

Before their family arrived, Gabriella and Bronson wanted time alone for their first look.

Trees were especially important to them, so we helped choose a Banff elopement location that combined a quiet forest setting with beautiful Canadian Rockies views nearby.

Bronson’s brother and Gabriella’s best friend Gracie came along to help us coordinate everything. Once everyone was in place, Gabriella and Bronson finally got to see each other.

Their first look was completely private.

With snowy trees surrounding them, Gabriella and Bronson had a minute to laugh, soak it all in, and have that little HOLY CRAP, WE’RE ACTUALLY GETTING MARRIED!!! moment together.

Then we gave them some time completely to themselves while we switched into ceremony mode! Their family started arriving, so we helped welcome everyone, got the ceremony space ready, and made sure all the little pieces were exactly where they needed to be.

Because we’d already scouted the location ahead of time, there was no wandering around trying to figure out what worked or where everyone should go. We knew the plan!

Gabriella and Bronson’s only job?

Hang out together in the snow, enjoy a few quiet minutes alone, and get ready to DO THE DAMN THING!!!

A Meaningful Banff Elopement Ceremony Surrounded by Family

Every part of Gabriella and Bronson’s ceremony had intention behind it.

They entered to music from The Lord of the Rings, because obviously.

At first, their loved ones stood in a semicircle. Once the couple reached the center, everyone shifted to create a full circle around them. Instead of simply watching from the sidelines, their favorite people literally surrounded them as they got married.

Before the vows began, their rings traveled around the circle. Each loved one held them for a moment and offered a prayer or blessing before passing them along.

By the time the rings made their way back, they carried a little piece of everyone standing there.

Their vows brought plenty of emotion, but the ceremony never felt overly serious. Jokes slipped into the moment, everyone laughed, and Bronson briefly found himself battling with one particularly stubborn ring.

But the ring eventually cooperated, the cheers came out, and suddenly these two were MARRIED!!!
There were huge smiles, happy tears, and so much freaking joy packed into that little snowy ceremony.

Basically, it felt like them.

Tim Hortons Hot Chocolate After Their Winter Ceremony

After getting married outside in the Canadian Rockies, Gabriella and Bronson needed something warm.

Enter: Tim Hortons hot chocolate.

They aren’t big drinkers, so champagne never felt necessary. Hot chocolate, on the other hand, made perfect sense for a snowy Banff winter wedding.

For our American friends, Tim Hortons is essentially Canada’s answer to Dunkin’.

And on a cold Banff wedding day, a round of hot chocolate felt pretty much perfect.

Warm cups in hand, everyone spent time hugging, laughing, and celebrating together. Nobody needed to rush toward another wedding tradition. Instead, Gabriella and Bronson could simply enjoy the fact that they had just gotten married in Banff.

Wedding Photos at the Fairmont Banff Springs

Because Gabriella had spent the morning at the Fairmont Banff Springs, she and Bronson wanted to incorporate the hotel into their wedding portraits.

If you’ve never seen it, the Fairmont Banff Springs looks like someone dropped a castle right into the Canadian Rockies.

It’s seriously magical! ✨

Rather than choosing the exact photo location themselves, Gabriella and Bronson trusted us to find the right perspective. We brought them to one of our favorite viewpoints overlooking the hotel, and that’s when things got weird in the coolest way.

They already had a photograph hanging in their home from almost the exact same angle!

We had never seen it on any of our planning Zoom calls. Wilma had made plenty of appearances, of course, but somehow the photo never did. 😂

Suddenly, Gabriella and Bronson were standing inside a view that had already been hanging on their wall at home. Except this time, they were there on their wedding day!

Talk about time-travelling into a painting. ✨

We love a little Banff serendipity!

Blue Hour Banff Elopement Photos at Bow Falls

We had blue hour at Bow Falls built into Gabriella and Bronson’s Banff elopement timeline from the beginning. Sunset was planned for their ceremony at Johnson Lake, but the clouds had other ideas that day. No glowing sunset. Honestly? Still gorgeous!

By the time we reached Bow Falls, the light had shifted into those cool blue-hour tones we were waiting for. It was exactly the mood we wanted for their lantern photos, and such a fun way to transition from their snowy outdoor adventure into the cozy evening ahead.

During winter, Bow Falls freezes into the surrounding landscape. Snow, ice, water, forest, and distant mountains all layered together around them. Against those cool winter tones, the lanterns brought just enough warmth into their Banff elopement photos.

The result felt dramatic without losing the coziness they wanted.

Basically, winter understood the assignment.

A Cozy Banff Elopement Evening With Records & Green Day

The Great Wedding-Day Vinyl Emergency

Music has always been a huge part of Gabriella and Bronson’s relationship. Between concerts, collecting records, and simply listening to music together, it made perfect sense to build it into their wedding day.

A record player and some of their favorite records made the trip to Banff with them. After spending the day outside, their plan was to return to the hotel for music, snacks, dancing, and some much-needed downtime.

Excellent plan.

One small problem: the record player broke.

The bad news came the night before their elopement when they tested it out. With less than a day to solve the problem, we told them we’d see what we could do.

Cue the emergency Canmore record-player mission.

Somehow, we found one. We bought it and surprised them with it on the morning of their wedding.

Because if you’ve planned part of your Banff elopement around rocking out to Green Day, we’re going to do our best to make sure Green Day actually happens.

Candid Banff Wedding Photos That Felt Like Real Life

Once everyone returned to the hotel, the energy shifted from mountain adventure to cozy wedding night.

Records went on. Charcuterie came out. Gabriella and Bronson sang to each other, danced around the bed, and finally had a chance to settle in after exploring Banff.

Some of their hotel photographs took on an editorial, almost Vanity Fair feeling. Between those portraits, we captured plenty of the candid moments they cared about most.

Bronson rocking out to Green Day was absolutely one of them.

Gracie was also there, quietly hanging out in the room with them. Her presence had extra meaning because the three of them go all the way back to their school days.

Then Gabriella and Bronson had another idea.

They pulled out two photographs from high school and asked us to recreate them.

Obviously, we said yes.

We matched the old poses on the fly and created a tiny time capsule of their relationship. The original photographs captured them as teenagers. Years later, they recreated those same moments on their wedding day in Banff.

Come on.

That’s ridiculously cute.

Ending Their Banff Elopement With a Private Dinner

After a full day exploring snowy Banff elopement locations, Gabriella and Bronson finished their celebration with a private dinner at The Maple Leaf in Banff.

At that point, posing for another round of wedding photographs wasn’t high on their priority list.

Totally fine with us.

Instead, we documented the evening as it naturally unfolded. Food arrived, drinks were poured, and conversations carried on around the table.

There was no grand exit waiting at the end of the night. Their wedding simply wrapped up over dinner with people they loved.

For a day built entirely around doing things their way, that ending felt pretty perfect.

Can You Have an Adventure Elopement in Banff Without Hiking?

Absolutely.

In fact, we really want more couples to know that Banff adventure elopements don’t require massive hikes.

Some of the best Banff elopement locations are surprisingly accessible. Depending on the season and conditions, couples can experience snowy forests, mountain lakes, waterfalls, and enormous Canadian Rockies views without committing to hours on a trail.

There are plenty of reasons you might prefer an easy-access elopement. Long hikes can be difficult for couples with chronic pain or other accessibility needs. Or maybe trekking several miles simply isn’t your idea of a good wedding day.

Whatever the reason, you don’t have to earn an incredible view.

We’re personally big fans of Team Epic Views, Minimal Effort.

Adventure looks different for everyone, and we’re very into that. As Banff elopement photographers, we’re not here to convince you that your wedding needs a bigger hike, a higher mountain, or a more extreme itinerary. We want to know what actually sounds fun to you.
